incredibleMAINE Creates
a New Maine Adventure
There’s a new breed of television called “hybrid TV” debuting on Maine Public Broadcasting in November. Part magazine format, part documentary format and part music TV, incredibleMAINE takes viewers on an adventure of Maine’s unique character.
incredibleMAINE is a 13-part series that goes behind the scenes of some of Maine’s most incredible places and inside the heads of some of its most incredible people. The weekly show will run Saturdays at 10:30am beginning November 3rd.
The show’s host and “Maine Guide” of sorts is LC Van Savage, a Brunswick resident who chose not to retire but instead to launch a new career in her senior years. She not only interviews, she participates in varied activities and joins the action. Van Savage is witty in an entirely unexpected way and helps viewers see Maine with new eyes, while they are being entertained and informed in the public television tradition.
Each half-hour show features a unique aspect of the state - talented people, special places, businesses and events - all reflecting the Yankee spirit that makes Maine exceptional. The show’s producers work cooperatively with Mainers to profile the sometimes hidden--and maybe not so hidden—stories that highlight what the state is all about. incredibleMAINE presents it all in a cinematic and music-based style.
The show is written and produced by Marilyn Taylor, who has written and produced for Turner Broadcasting, The Coca-Cola Company, IBM and The Walt Disney Company. The show is directed by Dave Wilkinson, who is also videographer and editor. Wilkinson also composes and produces all original music for each show with his band Sounds Incredible. Dave’s music has reached the Billboard Hot 100.
incredibleMAINE is shot (but not yet broadcast) in high definition video, on-the-road and in-the-field, throughout the state.
The first season will feature Winona Camps in Bridgton, one of the oldest summer camps for boys in North America; the women of Maine Roller Derby, or "fishnets on wheels"; Fiddle Camp in Montville with many of Maine’s best fiddlers; and a behind-the-scenes look at the Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick. Other shows in the series include Portland’s Victoria Mansion; Acadia National Park; Cold River Vodka; the Maine State Aquarium; John Libby Houses & Barns and more.
