A unique show... a treasure trove of
Maine lore....
incredibleMAINE has
been a popular show on the Maine Public
Broadcasting Network (MPBN) since its
creation in 2007. This Emmy-nominated
half-hour show explores Maine’s unique
culture, people and locations. Viewers of
all ages watch weekly because there is
nothing else quite like its
entertainment/documentary format.
Why are we raising funds?
incredibleMAINE’s
husband and wife Director/Producer team Dave
Wilkinson and Marilyn Taylor have thus far
carried the financial burden of the show.
They have been helped immeasurably by a crew
of volunteers. That commitment has resulted
in 46 shows, multiple Telly awards and two
Emmy nominations.
You might
be thinking: “Aren’t expenses covered by
donations to PBS and the Maine Public
Broadcasting Network (MPBN)?”
Frankly,
no. incredibleMAINE
has never received any financial support and
Public Television itself is constantly
fighting for funding in the new media world.
As pleased as Dave and Marilyn were to have
MPBN pick up the show in 2007, there weren’t
(and still aren’t) funds available for incredibleMAINE.
Accepting this reality, the two tried to
recruit Underwriters, however they were
unable to successfully compete with their
local PBS station for the limited funds
available in Maine.
After
years of self-financing the shows, Dave and
Marilyn are tapped out. They need to find
financial support, at least for
out-of-pocket expenses like tape, gas, meals
and other travel expenses. The production
team is not eligible for grants since they
are not a non-profit.
incredibleMAINE
has been the team’s gift to the state of
Maine. It’s now time for this labor-of-love
to become a larger group project. In
addition to ongoing expenses, the trusty
Sony Z1U camera is approaching retirement
(new cam: $5000) and nothing has been
upgraded in five years.
